Week 6: Yaquay Yaquay! (?) but also Jerramon because we were kicked out...
Well hello everyone! I'll get to the subject line in a bit, but overall it's been a busy week in the KLM. Lots of stuff going on, yet lots of cool miracles.
We started teaching 3 new friends this week and they're all really promising. And I definitely realize how naive that sounds, but whatever, you have to have some sort of hope. One of them said that she at first didn't want to open the door, but she did anyway. When we were done talking she said that she really needed it and was glad she let us in. It was pretty funny too, because she talked about us at work as well as with her family and they were shocked that she let us in. Something about us being a cult and brainwashing people or something. Anyways, that was a fun little conversation with her when we met up again yesterday.
We were also kicked out of an apartment complex this week which was super fun. Thankfully we can still go back and talk to people that we are already teaching, but it was still a highlight.
I was also Bible bashed via Facebook messenger on a Book of Mormon ad. Or rather, someone attempted to bash me. It was funny because this person bashed my companion back in December, so I knew what he was trying to do before we even really started. I basically just shared my testimony and then left him on read.
Now to the subject line. We went on exchanges with the Marshallese Elders up in Evansville, Indiana on Friday. Exchanges are basically where we switch companions for a day. Anyways, me and Elder Hayes were companions with another Marshallese speaking Elder up in their area and it was really cool. The people there are some of the most kind and welcoming people on earth. Almost every family we stopped at tried to feed us. I picked up a few Marshallese phrases as well, which was also kind of fun. Yaquay means "hello" and Jerramon means "bye" or "see you later." I'm not entirely sure on the spelling, hence the question mark. But it was fun to kind of just sit there and listen to the language because I had no idea what was being said half the time. The language has like no resemblance to English which was fun
We also had a lesson almost entirely in Spanish this week which was so cool. Elder Hayes is technically assigned as a Spanish missionary, so he did most of the talking, but I was still able to somewhat understand what was being said. It was cool.
Oh and I guess I turned 19 on Friday, so there's that.
but anyways... onto the pictures
1) Absolute gorgeous sunset on the river
2) Birthday Lunch at Five Guys
3) I had fun shaving a mid at best watermelon
4) We had to do a double take on this one
5) Trampling through the woods with 7 other missionaries last p-day
6) Someone we're teaching was kind enough to feed us on my birthday and also made me cookies. They apparently took this flattering picture...
But yeah, love y'all and talk to you next week!
