Week 7: Scrumptious - Adjective: "extremely pleasing to the sense of taste" - our dank dictionary app

Well, I guess it's been a week hasn't it. I guess I'll write an email for y'all since every week you're so enamored with my dripping sarcasm and wonderful use of prose in the English language.

Fun times in the mission this past week. My district leader somehow got the impression that I was a good piano player from stumbling through the right hand of "If You Could Hie to Kolob" during district council a few weeks ago. Naturally, he told the STLs that I would be able to play the piano for Zone Conference this coming week, so that's lit. This is probably borderline gossip which is essentially apostate in the mission, so I'll just leave it at that. (I do like my district leader, I just found it so funny. Also I just need some sarcasm in my life right now. Who doesn't?)

That same district leader asked me to play the piano for a Marshallese baptism this past Saturday which was actually pretty cool. The Marshallese people are so awesome, loving, and faithful, and it was good to see a baptism, even if it was someone that I didn't even teach.

A lot of our lessons and contacts fell through this past week which is just how missionary work is sometimes.

We also found it fun to feed the snakes at Audubon this past week. As one of the snakes was swallowing a mouse whole, Elder Hayes said in British accent: "Compliments to the chef, these mice are scrumptious!" Genuinely one of the funniest things I've heard in a hot minute.

But yeah. We're still working with a lot of our friends. The lessons that didn't fall through went really well this past week. We hope that we'll be able to have a baptism soon in this area, but ultimately it's up to the Lord. This is His work we're doing. Over the past week, my testimony has continued to grow, particularly for the Plan of Salvation. God really does have a plan for each of us, and He wants to bless us, if we but follow His commandments. I've really enjoyed teaching this Plan this past week to all walks of people. Even if we don't have all the details in life figured out, we can trust that God is still there, watching out for and taking care of us. God truly is in the details of our lives and will help us even when we're struggling, in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Love you all and look forward to talking next week!

Dictionary:

District Leader - Our district (the group of about 10-15 missionaries that meets once a week) is assigned a leader who is just one of the missionaries in that group.

District Council - Every Friday, districts have a meeting called district council, where we discuss the work in our areas and receive some training from the district leader.

STLs - Sister Training Leaders. Every Zone (see below) has two Sisters (title given to female missionaries) called to help lead in the area with training and putting together Zone Conference (see below).

Zone - A geographic area comprised of several districts.

Zone Conference - Once every 6 weeks, we gather as a zone and have an all day meeting (conference) to be spiritually edified and receive training from the general mission leaders (particularly the Mission President and his wife). My first Zone Conference in the mission field is this Tuesday.

Pictures:

1) The sisters in my district made me a cake for my birthday. They refused to make a circle or square cake, so I told them they could make it in the shape of an airplane.

2) The sunset last night returning home from our last visit - shot on a top of the line galaxy A13.

3) Gaslight drive. Speaks for itself.

4) Compliments to the chef, am I right?
