Week 9: A Week Indeed

Wow was this a long week. It's been a bit of a trip, not going to lie. I honestly can't even remember half the stuff we did it was so busy. I'm kind of mentally drained from it, so if I'm not captivating enough today, like just take a long deep breath. I hope y'all will be able to spiritually and temporally survive until next week.

On the eventful side of things, we drove the two hour journey to Louisville on Wednesday for new missionary training with another companionship in my district (Elder Helm and Elder Homan). All the missionaries who started at the beginning of June (like the 15-20 of us) along with their companions were there, which was kind of fun because I got to see my MTC comp again. ;) Funny enough, I was not asked to play the piano at the training. More on that later... After the training we went over to the Louisville Temple to just take some pictures and walk the grounds for a few minutes. It was nice. I wish we could've gone in, but it was closed by the time we were done with training (which was depressing, but there will be another time). Anyways, we vibed with Elders Helm and Homan all the way back to Henderson. On the way, we passed by Santa Claus, Indiana and waved at Holiday World on the way. Super fun, even though it's apostate to step foot on a roller coaster as a missionary. Speaking of apostate, I think that's easily one of my new favorite words. Like I get the appeal of nuanced and allegedly, but sometimes you have to add some extra flare into your vocabulary, am I right???

We found 5 new friends this week which was awesome, even if like 2 of them should have already been recorded before this week. It's kind of hard to explain, but sometimes area book (our digital record book) is just like that sometimes.

It's both a blessing and a curse that missionaries aren't allowed to give rides to people because of insurance. On the blessing side of things, it makes us so that we can't become a taxi business and have people take advantage of us. On the curse side, we can't give our friends rides to Church (who actually want to come to Church). It's a love-hate relationship.

But anyways, we're teaching a family and one of the kids who is 8 is getting baptized at the end of the month. Their kids are so smart and it's been so fun to teach them about once a week. In our lesson with them this week, we helped plan the baptism and he asked Elder Carlson to baptize him! It was so cute, but at the same time we were internally crying because it was literally the day before transfer calls, and any of us could have been called out. The next day, our Mission President called us up and said that Elder Hayes is leaving us to go back over to Louisville tomorrow :( We'll definitely miss Elder Hayes. He's literally so funny and is gonna do great things in Louisville (and Peru if he ends up getting there). We're glad though that Elder Carlson gets to stay and baptize our friend.

Now to the piano comment from above. For Sacrament meeting, the Henderson branch normally uses an organ that can play itself, since they don't have any piano or organ players. To put it short, the organ just stopped working for the Sacrament hymn, and it was awkward silence for like 15 seconds. So I stood up and played the Sacrament hymn on the piano. Thankfully I was able to play pretty well, even though I hadn't practiced that song in a bit. It was actually kind of a tender mercy.

Anyways, this work is amazing, it's just long and hard sometimes. But it's through hard things that the Lord shapes us into who He wants us to become.

I say love y'all every week, and I don't want y'all to feel like I'm smothering you in love. So...
I'm glad i'm acquaintances with you all. Hope I have the pleasure of communicating with you all next week! Hope this stream of consciousness email wasn't unbearable...

Pictures:
I'm not gonna lie, I have no idea the order the pictures were put in (because "received_8576243855213138" means absolutely nothing to me), but just a bunch of pictures of the Louisville Temple (I literally love the temple), a boat, and a lizard. Riveting description I know ;)
