Week 15: Henderson Part 3 -- Here We Come!

Well, transfer news is here! I am staying in Henderson for at least another 6 weeks! Unfortunately Elder Carlson will be moving out to New Albany, Indiana, but I'll be getting a new companion tomorrow and we'll continue the great work.

What a week it's been, though. We went on exchanges and I got to drive for the first time! Nothing like driving a 2022 Nissan Rogue and promptly getting 2 "aggressive drivings" because I haven't driven in 3 months and didn't know the pedal sensitivity. Like come on, I'm practically the safest driver I know (insert a winky face emoji, but also an emoji that just says straight facts on it). Silly Tiwi (Our robot friend attached to the car).

But on to some good stuff. Our friends here in Henderson are really progressing! We had one friend give us his supply of alcohol and coffee on Friday to show his dedication to the Word of Wisdom. In all honesty, I was not expecting to drive with some 80 proof vodka, some undistilled moonshine, and like 20 cans of Miller lite (or light - I genuinely don't care) in the back of the car. Thankfully Elder Carlson is over 21, so no apostasy or illegality, because let's face it, we probably would have been arrested if not. (Oh and a coffee maker, some coffee grounds, and some creamer. It was genuinely funny). Hopefully the picture will do it justice.

We taught a family on Wednesday night, and they said that they want to start coming to Church which is awesome! This was one of those weeks where I really felt like I'm actually making a difference in people's lives (or rather I'm helping them see how they can change their lives through the gospel of Jesus Christ). Yesterday and last night while we went around Henderson for Elder Carlson to say his goodbyes, friend after friend said how much that we mean to them. In all honesty, some of these people are not going to join the Church, but it is still good to see that we have helped them grow closer to Jesus Christ in a unique way. My heart was filled with love last night for all of my friends here, and I'm thankful that I get to spend another 6 weeks in town with them helping them come unto Christ. The past few days reminded me of a talk from general conference by Elder Christofferson several years ago titled "Reflections on a Consecrated Life." Over the past year and a half I have seen the Lord's hand bless me SO much, filling my heart with joy (with a capital J (but intentionally a lower case j because let's be honest, it looks so much better)). When we truly turn our hearts to the Savior, He is so willing, and so ready, to bless us abundantly with true joy.

But let's be honest, missionary work is SOO hard. Like BYU starts today, and I'm just like take me back plz, because freshman year was so much fun (yet still so hard). But the Lord has a plan for me, and I will continue to push through the difficulties of being a missionary and continue to savor the joy in the work.

Anyways, this has been long... enjoy the pictures! (And hopefully I don't get apostated for sending a picture of a bunch of alcohol lol.)

Pictures:

Missionary work at it's finest.

Last Sunday with Elder Carlson in Henderson.

A roofless church in New Harmony, IN
(Speaking of which, the town is one of 1000 places to go before you die...allegedly.)

Helping a turtle across the road.
(I just follow Elder Carlson around apparently.)

We were told to stand on the table for a picture...we complied.
