Week 77 (and 1/2): e-town-ian drama
Sheesh. This has been a week and a half. I'm writing half of this on Sunday night to cover the first half of this "week" lol. But needless to say, it's been a busy one.
First of all transfers happened this week. To paint the scene, consider this scenario. Elder Murray and I pull up to our friends long-term care facility and as we begin the lesson, we get a text from President asking if we can talk. Rip. We proceed to teach this guy with my heart racing the entire time, practically knowing I'm getting transferred 😥. At the end, our friend left us with a prayer, which included that Elder Murray and I would "one day become Apostles or other Senior Leaders in the Church" and that we would do great things in life. LOLOLOL! Elder Murray and I about died laughing in the prayer, as he was dead serious. It was so funny.
With that as the scene, I got called to move down to Elizabethtown, Kentucky (aka E-town). So yeah, that's been my home for like a week now lol. #only4moreweeksinthetransfer.
It's been a vibe down here. A little overwhelming being in a new area, but I'm loving the people and we're finding new friends to teach. Like our Brother named Josh who knew the Book of Mormon was true after a 30 second introduction to it. He was a vibe.
But, my last week in Shelbyville was really good and really tender. I always am filled with such gratitude and love when I'm leaving an area that "the Lord, [has] suffered [me] to come unto this place; for thus it was expedient in [Him] for the salvation of souls." (D&C 100:4) There were some sad goodbyes, especially with Tony, Janet, and Jazzy, but I know that the work we accomplished in Shelbyville this transfer was good, and that miracles will come from it. I'm excited to see how things turn out for a lot of our friends.
Sheeeeesh. The rest of this email is written 3 days later. Monday through Wednesday went crazy. Elder Bowen of the Seventy came in and fired the mission up. Let's just say that that's a nuanced statement, with multiple meanings of fire. Some were chastised to the core. Others were stretched to new heights. We had MLC on Monday, and Elder Bowen practically gave an hour and a half lecture on the Priesthood and setting goals that will push us. It was really good. Yet kind of scary.
ZoCo (installment 13) was two days later on Wednesday and he fired the mission up with 6 things that can change the course of our mission. They were bold. Some people probably doubted. But fear and doubt are essentially apostate when it comes to having an eye of faith. Two of the six things were to have 30 lessons a week and have 30 testifying contacts a day. But we are all fired up to trust in the Lord and make it happen!! It was also such a good zone conference because it was with 4 zones. It was SO fun to see all the missionaries that I've known and love for so long.
Ok last crazy story. We had dinner with Joel and Crystal Shoaf, the Aunt and Uncle of the one and only Ethan Shoaf. That was clinically insane. They said they remember the Larsons, particularly the older three as they lived in Columbus, IN until 2007. Crazy small world.
Anyways, after a week and a half of proselyting, I'm tired and I'm gonna rest. Peace, baby!
