Week 15: Henderson Part 3 -- Here We Come!

Image
Well, transfer news is here! I am staying in Henderson for at least another 6 weeks! Unfortunately Elder Carlson will be moving out to New Albany, Indiana, but I'll be getting a new companion tomorrow and we'll continue the great work. What a week it's been, though. We went on exchanges and I got to drive for the first time! Nothing like driving a 2022 Nissan Rogue and promptly getting 2 "aggressive drivings" because I haven't driven in 3 months and didn't know the pedal sensitivity. Like come on, I'm practically the safest driver I know (insert a winky face emoji, but also an emoji that just says straight facts on it). Silly Tiwi (Our robot friend attached to the car). But on to some good stuff. Our friends here in Henderson are really progressing! We had one friend give us his supply of alcohol and coffee on Friday to show his dedication to the Word of Wisdom. In all honesty, I was not expecting to drive with some 80 proof vodka, some undistilled moo...

Week 14: "The Man That Follows You Around"

Image
Currently on our way up to Vincennes, Indiana to hang out with some other Elders. Forgot to bring my Bluetooth keyboard, so this'll be fun.  Overall it was a good week...Zone conference was on Tuesday, and it was awesome to be able to gather again as a zone. We had some great trainings, and I always love to hear from our leaders. Our friends... let's see. Down in Sturgis, Kentucky one of our friends thinks that I don't talk a lot. To give him credit, I am pretty quiet when we're down there. Partly because it's a pretty long drive, and I feel like I'm usually half asleep when we're down there. Anyways, we were talking with his wife, and he sent us a text afterwords thanking us for coming by, saying he noticed a change in his wife after we left. To quote him... "thank you Skylar and the man that follows you around, lol." It was so funny. In Mount Vernon on Saturday, we were teaching a family about the gospel of Jesus Christ, and their little girl lik...

Week 13: 3 Months I Guess

Image
Well today marks my 3 month mark from being set apart as a missionary. That's pretty cool. Not going to lie, I'm not really sure what to say in these emails anymore that will make it entertaining and riveting. I feel like I'm becoming an uncultured swine, so it's difficult to come up with some good <quality> content.  Anyways, this week we had a lot of awesome lessons and contacts. There were parts of the week that felt like a bit of a drag, but overall we had some cool miracles with our friends. We found 7 new friends this week, which is essentially unheard of (even though 6 of them were like basically 1 family). We also grilled out with our neighbors this week which was pretty fun. We're not sure if it'll lead to any teaching, but sometimes it's important for people to know that missionaries aren't like these uncultured robot things and are real people. But yeah, the work continues. The transfer is over in like 2 weeks which is insane and means t...

Week 12: I Have Changed My Mind...I Do Want to Talk to You

Image
Another week gone by in the KLM! In all honesty Monday through Friday FLEW by, and then I hit a brick wall on Saturday. Saturday we worked up in Mount Vernon, and it just felt like we were driving all day, with nothing really significant other than one really good lesson. Such is life I guess. Anyways...I've been asked to play the piano for Zone Conference again, but this time I got to pick the songs. So that's a little more comforting. But it is insane that Zone conference is a week from tomorrow. Like what on earth. This summer went by so fast, and I'm like K bye I guess. This week we had a lot of cool miracles with finding and teaching. We had several really good referrals that led to some awesome lessons and contacts. Interesting because about 96 out of 100 referrals we get, we text/call them and there's either no response or they just respond "CANCEL." And to comment on the cancel response...first of all I am NOT a bot! I refuse to use the default respons...

Week 11: Update - It's That Time Again

Image
To prevent my Mission President from commenting on my length of hair, I'm currently vibing in a Great Clips in Evansville, Indiana. Grand old time listening to Bohemian Rhapsody – a classic indeed. Anyways, this past week has been great! We had so many good lessons and contacts with our friends, and we think that several of them are progressing well, which is awesome. We also had a baptism!!! Of course, it was a members' 8 year old child, but the missionaries have been teaching them for a bit, so it's a win! Elder Carlson was able to baptize him (twice - like me, lol) and I was blessed with the opportunity to be voice for the Confirmation which was really cool. He's such a smart kid, and wants to be a missionary one day :) Anyways, now to the funny stuff. Hugged by a drunk lady this week (apostate on about 6 different levels, but it's complicated). We're teaching her, but apparently it was her birthday this week and she was celebrating. It was weird. But we taug...
